A New Take On A Jazz Standards Legend: THE HOAGY CARMICHAEL PROJECT
For the first time in a career that has spanned three decades, jazz drummer John B. Arnold, the grandson of songwriter Hoagy Carmichael (“Stardust,” “The Nearness of You”) is launching a tour of his grandfather’s most unforgettable songs. Joining him are piano virtuoso Ettore Carrucci, bassist, instrumentalist and arranger Federica Michisanti, and accomplished classic violinist and vocalist Valentina Pinto.
“We have committed ourselves rhythmically and harmonically to Hoagy classics like ‘Skylark’,” says John B. Arnold, “But we are also rediscovering some of his lesser known works, such as ‘Memphis in June,’ ‘Blue Orchid’ and ‘One Morning in May’. By putting a fresh spin on these beautiful old classics, we hope to do honor to an artist who has influenced entire generations of jazz musicians.”
